EPIC DEVELOPMENT OF OUTSTATION ACCOMMODATION FOR SPDC IN NEMBE CREEK
BRIEF:
The EPIC Nembe FLB as it is popularly called is a multi-million dollar project classified under the major civil projects department of Shell Petroleum Development Company. It is a facility development contract involving the construction of seventeen (17) permanent block wall accommodation (comprising of six (6) prototype Living accommodation units of 8-bedrooms each, an office accommodation, a Recreation Building, a Laundry Building, a Sickbay, an Information Technology/Telecommunication-Data Building, an Uninterrupted Power Supply/Low Voltage-Switch Building, Workshop Building, a Kitchen/Restaurant, a Dispatch Building, a Generator house, a Chemical Storage block, a network of roads and connecting walkways and drainage structures, Sewage Treatment Plant, Upgrade of Low-Voltage Switch Panel, Citadel Perimeter Fencing Structure, Shore Protection and a Floating Jetty.
All the buildings are to be fully equipped and furnished on completion. Equipment (both household and industrial), Machineries for the workshop and Furniture have all been procured. The project was awarded for a duration of two (2) years. Presently site works are on-going and we are at 45% completion status. The Challenge in the project is not in the installation and construction but rather in the local/overseas procurement of materials/equipment and marine logistics management needed to get resources to the Nembe Creek location of the project site.
RELEVANCE (BASIS OF DESIGN):
The need for this all important project, EPIC DEVELOPMENT OF OUTSTATION ACCOMMODATION AT NEMBE CREEK E11560. was born out of the need to reduce cost and exposure of SPDC field personnel (over 100 persons) arising from the two-weekly movement schedule in and out of the Nembe field via the helicopter service.
IMPORTANCE TO HOST COMMUNITY:
The Nembe (fishing) community in Bayelsa State is the long term beneficiary of this project. Long after oil may have ceased to flow, long after SPDC economic interest in the region may have dwindled, the structures Nestoil is currently developing will still be providing the Nembe community with the capacity to accommodate the population boom which is usual of areas that were once in oil boom.
As part of sustainable community development, Nestoil on-behalf of SPDC is building a six classroom block for the Community Girls Secondary School at Ogbolomabri, Nembe, Bayelsa State.
